raz, even if the story in The Hun is right, without a name change by deed poll, no Australian broadcaster or publisher ever had any legal basis to call the man 'Jihad Jack,' and especially not while terrorism related charges were pending against him. This is fully irresponsible journalism. If I'd have done anything like this while working as a newsie, I'd have been in the dole queue faster than you can say 'Osama.'

Thomas seems to have as good a legal basis for a defamation claim as does Mamdouh Habib, who was repeatedly referred to as a "terrorist" by Ltd News, absent any charge, trial or conviction on any terrorism-related offence. I hope Mamdouh and Maha Habib can take their pick of which island they're going to buy with the defamation settlement funds.

Pity ole weez and his chums weren’t so careful when recently smearing a well known nationalist with the ‘terrorist’ tag. Wonder if he’d be so keen to encourage legal action over that one.Maybe not.
